Radley Lakes is an area of former gravel workings. Some of these have now been filled in, while others remain as lakes. The area is rich in wildlife, and has been designated a Local Wildlife Site by Oxfordshire County Council. The area is popular with walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, photographers and others. Most of the land is privately owned, but a number of public rights of way or permissive paths pass through the area.
In 2008, two of the lakes were saved from destruction after a long community-led campaign. Friends of Radley Lakes was formed after the campaign, to care for the Lakes in the long term. We work closely with the Earth Trust, which is now managing part of the area for nature conservation and public access.
